2002 Fall Confrence The 2002 Fall Conference has just passed as you are reading this newsletter, and here is what you missed if you weren’t there! A warm welcome to CCBI’s new president Dr. Desmond Rose and his family, now from Springfield, Missouri but originally from South Africa; and to Kenya’s National Director Mr. Peter Kasuku Nyagrowa, all here for their first glimpse of Tennessee. The Halleluia Hoedown arranged by Larry Self, featuring “Sandra Sherrill and The Joyful Echoes” from Crossville; the Varga/Ross Family; the Tylers and other favorites. A cap-and-gown ceremony to mark the installation of CCBI’s new president and the graduation of Knoxville student Wayne Adkison. Messages by Larry Self, Lance Even, Desmond Rose, Cindy Walker, Harry Camp, Peter Kasuku and Robert Ridley. Plenty of good food and fellowship, along with hospitality by Cookeville Rescue Mission. Highly significant discussions and actions during the board of directors meeting. (Details in November newsletter) Alumni News Thomas Malande graduated in Kenya in the 90’s with CCBI Bachelor and Master degrees, also volunteering then as National Director and currently as one of our faculty. He served for many years with Scripture Union, and is now working with his wife in international missions as Director of Family Impact Africa. He writes,”I have just returned from Ghana in West Africa and will be leaving for Johannesburg South Africa on Monday. Pray for Hellen and me, as we are very mobile with Family Impact Africa across the continent. The Lord has used us to bring reconciliation and healing to many broken homes. What I learned in CCBI is put to good use. We are not ashamed of the gospel and Jesus still proves for Himself that He is Lord of Lords.” Many thousands of children across Kenya have heard and responded to the gospel message from this very tall, dark, smiling friend they know and love as “Uncle” Tom. His great heart is tender and moved as he encourages a little child, as he counsels and weeps with AIDS families, and as he teaches with Godly wisdom and authority. It is right and appropriate that CCBI honors one of our own, Thomas Malande of Africa. Thank You Harry & Jane Camp Words of Encouragement CCBI teachers often write personal comments on courses as the work is being read and evaluated. This practice, though expected and appreciated by our students, is a feature which distinguishes CCBI from many other correspondence schools. Likewise, our teachers are sometimes affirmed by student comments such as these which recently encouraged Bob Ridley. Evaluation of Elective Course #424 “The Pursuit of Holiness” by Oliver Patrick, Grenada “This course has been a blessing to me. In fact this course has had a very deep and profound effect on me as no other course. At the end of this study I can testify that I am indeed a new man. I think a new thought, and walk a new walk.” “Now my life can be described as a pursuit of holiness.” “What I find particularly impressive about this course “The Pursuit of Holiness” is its simplicity, its scholastic nature and practicality all blended in a cohesive and effective vehicle that aids the student as he progresses in his pursuit of holiness.” “It is my opinion that the chapter layout was well thought out. The great depth and width in which the particular subject matters were dealt leaves no stone unturned giving us students a firm and adequate foundation that we can build upon as we begin both the study and the pursuit of holiness.” “The questions in the companion work book are of equal excellence as they stir up the mind and cause the student to think. This thinking is not just from an academic level but the nature of the questions is such that they force you to get very personal, causing you to come face to face with yourself in the mirror of the word and therefore one has no choice but to deal with issues of holiness and consecration in his own life.” “This course has caused me to become focused on the very vital biblical tenet of holiness. Not many books are written on the subject in this era, nor are many sermons preached to this regard. For me this course has acted as a reality check causing me to refocus on some very vital and basic issues in my walk with the Lord. I have gained a renewed interest in the Word of God. His Word has taken on a new and vital meaning to me. This course has shifted my focus in my Bible Study. I no longer approach the Word from an exegetical perspective adhering to the major Bible study methods and exegetical principles, rather I now run to the Word as a babe will run to his mother’s breast. For now I truly understand the vitality of the Word to my life of holiness. I truly desire the sincere milk of the Word to my life of holiness. I truly desire the sincere milk of the Word so that I can grow.” In just four weeks I can testify of personal growth in the area of holiness - Thanks to God and His Holy Spirit using the material of this course I have become conscientious of holiness in my daily life. I have made progress in holiness of mind, heart and my general walk with the Lord has been given a new vitality. Rodger Samuel, Trinidad student in Bachelor of Christian Counseling program, written in answer to question in Holiness #424 course, “Summarize the Christian’s relationship to an unholy world. “Christianity fills the world with joy; embroiders its cloud with love, tinges even its winter with goodness, makes the thunder rattle kindness as well as power, and the storms speak of mercy as well as majesty. It fills the world with sunshine, and does not make it into a dreadful prison, haunts of demons, but a thoroughfare of angels, the nursery of happiness, the temple of God and the gate of heaven.” “Christians, by their very lives and instructions, are to keep the world from entire moral corruption. By bringing down the blessing of God in answer to their prayers, and by their influence and example, they save the world from universal vice and crime.” “The character and principles of Christians, brought into close contact with the world, are designed to arrest the festering corruption of humanity and season its insipidity, to preserve it from corruption, to freshen and sweeten it.” “Unbelievers are often kept from evil deeds because of a moral consciousness traceable to Christian influence.” Graduation in Trinidad
